The Hare family found me through my neighbor Kelsey, who was friends with Chloe. Chloe saw Kelsey’s photos posted on social media, asked her who took them, and from there our client friendship was born. Since these first Libby Hill Park family photos with Rob, Chloe, Robert and Forrest, I have done four additional sessions with them. You might even recognize them from my family portfolio and another blog post.

Forrest was only one year old and Robert was four. Chloe and Rob live in Powhatan, and we met in Richmond at Libby Hill Park because it has a gorgeous view of the city, James River and historic Tobacco Row. It is a seven acre park in the Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond.
We had a beautiful golden hour with blue clouds in the sky. It was a little windy and chilly since we photographed their family later in the fall. I love shooting at Libby Hill Park
Outfits for Family Pictures at Libby Hill Park
Libby Hill Park is right in the middle of a bunch of row homes and townhouses, so there is not a ton of parking. We each drove around a few times before finally finding parking close to the roundabout.
When I first met the Hare family, I was so impressed with Chloe’s ability to style everyone.
She looked absolutely drop-dead gorgeous with her striking red hair, a short burgundy long-sleeve dress, and thigh-high chunky gray boots.
Forrest wore a rust-colored Carhartt beanie. burgundy and white checkered slip-on Vans, little khaki pants, a navy shirt and a fleece zip-up jacket. Rob wore an oatmeal-colored long-sleeve Henley, blue jeans and brown lace-up boots. Robert had on a plaid flannel button-down shirt with all of those colors in it, blue jeans and his own little burgundy high-top Vans.
As soon as I saw how amazing they all looked, I knew I was going to be stoked to photograph them. Best Libby Hill Park family photos ever!
Family Photos in Church Hill
We talked a little at the beginning, and I found out that Rob is an Army veteran too, which was super cool. They also have just as many tattoos as Scott and I do.
For the first photos, I put my plaid quilt on the ground and sat them in front of a bunch of flowering orange bushes.
I did my usual posing flow and started with everyone smiling and looking at the camera. That is typically what people are most comfortable starting with because it is what they are most used to.
I had the boys sitting in their parents’ laps and talked to Robert about what he liked watching on TV. Of course, as a four-year-old boy, he liked superheroes, Paw Patrol and PJ Masks.
Forrest was really shy at first. Once I had Mama holding him and Dad holding Robert, I asked Robert whose feet stunk the worst in the house.
He laughed and, of course, said Daddy’s.
I think Forest started giggling because everyone else was.
Parent and Child Shots During this Family Photoshoot
From there, I started taking photos of each parent with one of their kiddos.
Chloe took Forrest’s beanie off, and that is when I saw that he had the most beautiful head full of curls. She tossed him up in the air, brought him back down and gave him a kiss, and he absolutely loved it.
Then Dad took Forest, and we walked down to the brick area where you can see the James River and the city of Richmond.
Rob lifted Forrest into the air too. His little curls blew in the wind, and he had the biggest smile on his face. Rob brought him back down into a super close hug while Forest showed me his sweet little cherub-like face, curly hair and blue eyes.
Mom and Robert went a little farther down onto the grass and looked at the train tracks and the really pretty fall colors. Then she grabbed him and spun him around and around. I got so many great shots for these Libby Hill Park family photos!
We put the boys down on the grass and got a couple of quick photos of them together because, especially with one-year-old and four-year-old boys, they are usually off and running.
After that, Chloe and Rob each held Robert’s hand and swung him up into the air while Rob carried Forrest on his hip.
As usual, I finished the session back in the golden sun with a few photos of just Mom and Dad embracing one another. I even caught a sweet romantic shot with the Lucky Strike smokestack on Richmond’s Tobacco Row in the background.
