Richmond & Midlothian Birth Photographer | Raw, Real, & Beautiful Moments
Because the day you meet your baby deserves more than phone photos.
Are you interested in Richmond, VA birth photographers, but you’re worried about the cost?
I get it; birth photography can be expensive, and it’s important to understand why. Let’s talk about it!
When I wanted a birth photographer for my first daughter, Audrey, 18 years ago, people thought I was weird or crazy. “Why would you want photos of that?” “Why don’t you want to keep that private?” “Who in the world does that for a job, and where are you going to find them?”
I’ll tell you what I told them. I want photos of the most important day of my life, when I meet my daughter, and I don’t have to take them. I get to be in them. I get to see my husband’s face, my face, and my daughter’s face for the first time, and I’ll never be able to get these moments back. I want them in the best quality I could have, so why wouldn’t I want someone else to photograph the most intense moments I will ever experience?
Here was the problem. I couldn’t find a birth photographer in Atlanta in 2007. I didn’t know any other professional photographers there except my wedding photographer, Jeromy Spivey of King and Spivey. So, I decided since he’s a dad and a grandfather, I would ask him, and he agreed. I had him stand up by my head and by my side when she was born, and we have incredible photos because of it. I absolutely wouldn’t trade these life-changing images for anything.

I did the same for my second daughter, Victoria, but this time in 2012, I was in the photography world myself and found an incredible Austin birth photographer, Michele of Pinkle Toes Photography. She traveled up to Fort Hood late at night, stayed until sunrise, and created the most breathtaking birth photos. She was unobtrusive, so on point, kind, and top-notch. We are still friends to this day. She even created two blog posts of Victoria’s birth. They are here and here.

So, if you’re considering Richmond, VA birth photography, know that it’s worth every penny and more! Don’t just take my word for it 😉 Here is what some of my clients had to say about their investment:
We had such an amazing experience with Sarah! She took our maternity, birth, and newborn photos, and they turned out absolutely stunning. We’re in love with every single shot. Sarah was great at communicating and coordinating with us, making everything go smoothly. She stayed with us through a long and exhausting birth, and she managed to quietly and expertly capture all the important moments, even during the C-section. Having her in the OR was such a huge benefit and made us even more grateful that we chose her. If you’re on the fence about booking a photographer for your journey, go with Sarah and you won’t regret it. We are so blessed to have these precious moments forever captured.
Sarah was my birth photographer and did our family/newborn photos. Initially we went with her bc she was cheaper than my normal photographer, but I am so glad we found Sarah! You will not find a more down to earth, and kind loving soul. The birth space is such a precious space and time to invite a “stranger” into. But Sarah let my husband and I still have our moment. Her prescence was not overbearing and didnt take away from my experience. I felt very comfortable around her from the very beginning. The birth photos we got back are AMAZING and I cant even tell you how thankful I am that I got those precious moments in photos. My only wish is that I had met sarah for my first born and had pictures of him and his sisters birth as well. Sarah also did our newborn photos, and let me tell you this woman has the patience of a saint! my son was super fussy and sarah was so patient, even when I was feeling frustrated I didnt see Sarah break a sweat or complain. The photos we got back were also amazing. Definitely recommend sarah!
