You should never have to wonder if you belong here

Have you ever scrolled through a family photographer’s website and thought, “Would our family even fit in here?”

I want you to hear this clearly, babe: you do.

I’m a Richmond family photographer, and I want the families I photograph to see themselves in my work. Two moms, two dads, single parents, blended families, chosen families, foster and adoptive families, and families with children who have disabilities or different support needs: there is room for you here.

Whether we meet in my studio or head outdoors to a place like Maymont, I want you to show up as yourselves. Your family deserves to be photographed with care, exactly as you are.

You can relax and be yourselves

Booking family photos means trusting someone with the people you love most. I know that feeling comfortable with your photographer matters every bit as much as loving the finished images.

You won’t need to explain your family to me or correct assumptions about who does what. Tell me what matters to you, what your kids are like, and how you want these photos to feel. I’ll take it from there.

I’m also an occupational therapist and an Army veteran. Those parts of my life have taught me to pay attention, stay calm when plans change, and meet people where they are. If a child needs a break or we need to change course, we will. That’s part of making space for real families.

What your family session will feel like

Picture a good afternoon together, maybe exploring Midlothian Mines Park, with somebody else keeping an eye on the light and the little details.

Your kids can be kids. Your partner doesn’t have to spend an hour holding a stiff smile. And you don’t have to carry the whole session on your shoulders.

I’ll give you enough direction to help everyone feel comfortable, then leave room for the real stuff: your child reaching for your hand, a laugh you didn’t see coming, the way you all lean toward each other without thinking. Those are the moments I’m watching for.

Your family is the story

I don’t have one picture of what a family is supposed to look like. When I photograph yours, I’m looking for what makes you you.

Maybe that means a quiet newborn morning at home. Maybe it’s your kids racing across the grass at Historic Tuckahoe. Either way, I’ll guide you, notice the small moments, and make photos that feel like your life.

Planning is simple. I’ve got you.

What should everyone wear? What if the kids melt down? What if your partner hates being photographed?

I’ve got you, darlin’. I’ll help with outfits that look good together without feeling too matched. You can also use pieces from my client closet. And if somebody needs a snack, a break, or a different plan, we’ll work with it.

If you like a little extra preparation, my Calm Mom Photo Day Guide has practical tips for getting ready. You can also see more of my family photography before you book.

Years from now, I hope these photos remind you of more than how everyone looked. I hope they bring back the feeling of being together in this season, with all the love and personality that make your family yours.

Ready when you are

If this sounds like the kind of session you’ve been looking for, reach out and tell me about your family. Tell me who’s coming, what this season of life feels like, and anything you’d like me to know. I’d love to photograph you and be your Richmond, Virginia family photographer.
